Mother nature was the winner on Friday evening at South Greene as rain forced the Lady Rebels’ contest with North Greene to come to a halt in the bottom of the fourth inning.
North Greene was leading 5-0 when the game was suspended, and play will resume on April 13 when South Greene is scheduled to visit Baileyton.
North Greene pitcher Hannah Brooks was dealing before play was stopped due to increasing rainfall. In 3 2/3 innings she struck out seven, walked none and had allowed one hit.
The Lady Huskies started the scoring in the top of the third inning. South Greene tried to pick off Addi Dean at third base, but the ball escaped into left field allowing the runner to score. Josie Graham moved to third on the play and was knocked in by Brooks who sent a single to left field.
Matti Phillips then pounded a ball into the left-field corner that scored courtesy runner Kylee Listek from first.
In the fourth inning North Greene added two more runs. Tralyn Southerland led off the side with a single up the middle and Kinlea Eastep followed with a bunt single. Dean pushed across Southerland on a sacrifice fly. Eastep scored from third on another failed pickoff attempt.
Hailey Williamson earned the Lady Rebels’ only hit on Friday.
In the circle Kortnei Bailey threw three innings for South Greene. She struck out two, walked three and allowed two hits.
Neveah Davis threw one inning with no strikeouts, one walk and two hits allowed.
