Pioneers Fifth After First Round Of LR Fall Invitational

HICKORY, N.C. — The Tusculum University men’s golf team was in fifth place after the first round of the Lenoir-Rhyne Fall Invitational Monday at Lake Hickory Country Club.

Play was halted due to darkness with all players on the course for round two. The teams will finish the second round Tuesday morning before starting the third and final round later Tuesday.

The Pioneers had a team score of 302 in the first round, placing them fifth out of 16 teams in the field. Host Lenoir-Rhyne had the lead after round one after shooting an even-par 288, leading North Greenville by seven shots. Rollins (298) and the Lenoir-Rhyne B team (299) also led Tusculum in the team standings.

Tusculum senior Hunter Hartman was the Pioneers’ top player in round one, shooting a one-under 71 to sit in a tie for third place, two strokes behind leader Holt Allison of Lenoir-Rhyne. Hartman had five birdies during his opening round.

Senior Liam van Deventer carded an even-par 72 in his first round and is in a tie for seventh place, with senior Blake Williams tied for 31st place after shooting 76. Sophomore Buster O’Callaghan and freshman Harrison Price were tied for 70th place after each shot a round of 83.
