Pioneers Fifth, Padilla Sixth After Day One Of King Invite

BRISTOL, Tenn. — The Tusculum University women’s golf team posted an aggregate score of 315 and are in fifth place after the opening round of the 2024 King University Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being held at the par 71, 5,852-yard Golf Club of Bristol.

Tusculum junior Reagan Padilla carded a four-over par 75 and is tied for sixth place. Padilla, the defending individual champion of the King Invitational, is three shots behind the Union University duo of Abigail Fernandez and Brooklyn Verdugo, along with Barton’s Terra Schmitt who all finished 72.

Union has the team lead after its 300 team score, five shots ahead of second place Converse. Emory & Henry is third with 312, followed by Belmont Abbey (314), Tusculum (315), Barton (319), King (319), Young Harris (330) and UVA Wise (337).

TU junior Lindsay Self matched her collegiate career low round with her 76 which has her currently tied for eighth place. She matches the 76 she carded at in the final round of the Agnes McAmis Memorial last spring.

Tusculum rookie Maylei Hildenbrand posted an 80 and is tied for 23rd place, junior Annabelle Mozingo is 32nd with her 84 and sophomore Delfin Filiz is 46th with 93. TU graduate student Emilie Bergh-Jacobsen, playing as an individual competitor, is tied for 20th following her opening round 79.

The final round will be held on Tuesday.
