The Greeneville girls basketball team picked up two big wins over tough opponents last week and junior post Maria Lyde was a big reason why. For that she has been named the Greene Sports Zone Player of the Week.
Lyde got her big week started in a 60-57 win over Alcoa. She blew past the Lady Tornadoes time after time on her way to a game-high 20 points. In addition to that she had seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Prior to the Alcoa game Lyde was recognized for scoring 1,000 career points and grabbing 500 career rebounds.
Next the Lady Greene Devils went to Dobyns-Bennett and held off the Lady Indians in a 52-48 victory. Lyde earned a double-double in the winning effort with 20 points and 12 rebounds. She also dished five assists.
