The Greeneville baseball team won its third straight Region 1-3A championship last week and senior Tegan Begley stepped up with both his bat and arm to lead the way. For that he has been named the Greene Sports Zone Player of the Week.
In Friday’s region semifinal against David Crocket Begley was 2-for-3 with a pair of triples, two RBIs and two runs scored as the Greene Devils picked up a 4-3 win.
Then on Saturday in the championship game against Tennessee High Begley’s arm stole the show. He came on in relief in a nine-inning contest and threw the final four innings. He struck out seven, walked three and allowed three hits while keeping the Devils within striking distance. At the plate he drove in two runs and was hit by a pitch three times. He finished the 5-4 Greeneville victory by scoring the winning run after Jack Lister put a walk off blast in the deepest part of centerfield.
