On Thursday three South Greene athletes finished on the medal stand at the Class A State Decathlon held at Hardin Valley Academy.
Ben Ballast came in the third place, Tripp Neas was fifth and Evan Stills was eighth.
Ballast who scored 4,802 points was second in the shot put with a heave of 11.81 meters. He was third in the 110 meter hurdles in 17.16 seconds, and third in the discus at 26.41 meters.
Neas had 4,580 points and won the shot put at 13.50 meters. He was second in the discus at 26.96 meters and was third in the 100 meters at 11.29 seconds.
Stills scored 4,016 points. He was fifth in the 1,500 meters, shot put, and 110 meter hurdles.
Union City’s Adrian Crawford claimed the state title with 6,311 points. He was first in the 100 meters, discus, pole vault, 400 meters, 110 meter hurdles, and high jump.
South Greene will head into the Class A State Track Meet next week in Knoxville with 11 team points and sitting in first place.
