SOCCER
Chuckey-Doak 10, Cumberland Gap 1
The Chuckey-Doak soccer team earned a 10-1 win over Cumberland Gap on Monday in the first round of the District 1-A Tournament.
Ryland Grindstaff and Dom Hahnlen each earned a hat trick for the Black Knights. The first of those came from Grindstaff in the 16th minute for a 1-0 lead.
In the 20th minute Edward Cedillo gave Chuckey-Doak a 2-0 lead when he nailed a penalty kick. Kaleo Tuscanodelanto scored just before the halftime horn for a 7-0 advantage, and Jesus Rojas scored in the 71st minute. Chuckey-Doak also took advantage of a Cumberland Gap own goal. Benjamin Merrill had two assists.
The Black Knights will take on Pigeon Forge on Tuesday in the Tournament semifinals.
SOFTBALL
West Greene 16, Chuckey-Doak 0
The West Greene softball team started postseason play on Monday with a 16-0 win over Chuckey-Doak in a District 1-2A Tournament elimination game.
Abby Cluesman was nearly untouchable in the circle as she allowed just one hit while striking out four and walking two.
The Lady Buffaloes produced 13 hits in the win. Autumn Carter went 4-for-5 with two RBIs. Aaubree Everett went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, two RBIs and four runs scored. Amanda Owens had a double and three RBIs. Alexis Cutshall had a double and Victoria Ramsey had three RBIs.
Jayden Myers took the loss for Chuckey-Doak in 2.1 innings she struck out three, walked two and allowed eight hits.
Jessie Dayton earned the Lady Knights lone hit.
West Greene will travel to Unicoi County on Tuesday for the tournament’s semifinals.
Greeneville 6, Cherokee 2
The Greeneville softball team took down Cherokee 6-2 on Monday in the first round of the District 2-3A Tournament.
Brynlee Jones shut down the Lady Chiefs bats, striking out 13, walking six, and allowing just one hit. She did not allow an earned run.
At the plate Brooke Parsley went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Brylee Tullock, Kaley Garland and Brynlee Jones all had two hits for Greeneville.
Greeneville will be back in action on Tuesday against Volunteer in the winners bracket finals.
North Greene 11, Cloudland 0
The North Greene softball team took down Cloudland 11-0 on Monday evening and advanced to the District 1-1A Tournament championship game.
The Lady Huskies also clinched a berth in the Region 1-1A Tournament.
Hannah Brooks earned the win in the circle. In five innings she struck out eight, walked none and allowed three hits.
At the plate North Greene scored its 11 runs on just three hits, but it took advantage of eight walks, and two errors. Matti Phillips was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs.
