SOFTBALL
Greeneville 6, Cherokee 4
The Greeneville softball team rallied late on Thursday night to earn a 6-4 win at Cherokee.
The Lady Greene Devils scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to swing in front for the first time. Greeneville’s first two runs crossed when Kyla Jobe hit a groundball that the Lady Chiefs threw away at second base. Brynlee Jones tied the game with an RBI double, and an RBI single by Destani Bailey put Greeneville on top. Bailey scored the final run on a groundout by Riley Foshie.
Greenville earned 11 hits in the win. Jobe was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Bailey went 2-for-4 and Foshie was 2-for-4.
Jones earned the win in relief. In six innings she struck out 15, walked one and allowed two hits.
North Greene 9, Cloudland 7
The North Greene softball team went to Cloudland on Thursday and picked up a 9-7 to stay perfect in District 1-1A play.
The Lady Huskies pounded 13 hits in the win with six players earning multiple hits. Loren Blevins was 2-for-5 with two doubles, and two RBIs. Matti Phillips was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Hannah Brooks was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Kinlea Eastep, Charlie Turnmire, and Chloe Keys also had two hits each.
From the circle Brooks struck out nine, walked three and allowed 10 hits.
Chuckey-Doak 18, West Greene 7
The Chuckey-Doak softball team picked up an important 18-7 win over West Greene on Thursday evening.
The win pushes the Lady Black Knights’ District 1-2A record to 5-4 while West Greene falls to 3-5 in league play. That has Chuckey-Doak in third place behind South Greene and Hampton and West Greene in fourth place with just over week remaining before the postseason starts.
Chuckey-Doak earned 15 hits in the winning effort. Jayden Myers was 4-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs. Tralyn Southerland was 3-for-4 with a home run and four runs scored. Saniah Atchison was 2-for-4 with a triple and five RBIs. Kendra Percell was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
For West Greene Alexis Cutshall was 2-for-3 with a double, and Morgan Brown had a grand slam.
Myers earned the win from the circle. In 4 2/3 innings she struck out one, walked four and allowed six hits.
Brown took the loss for West Greene. In 5 1/3 innings she struck out four, walked three and allowed 15 hits.
BASEBALL
Dobyns-Bennett 4, Greeneville 1
Dobyns-Bennett scored three runs in the sixth inning to break a tie and went on to beat Greeneville 4-1 on Thursday night.
The difference was a three-run home run by Travis Maxwell that left the park in right field in the sixth inning. The Indians were held to five hits on Thursday and three of them came in the sixth inning.
Greeneville was held to four hits. Maddox Bishop, Will Harmon, Kobe Mundy and Kaine Ricker all had singles.
On the mound Carson Quillen started the game and went 2 2/3 innings with two strikeouts, three walks and no hits allowed. Carson Norris threw 1 1/3 and allowed one hit. Randen Fillers threw one inning with one strikeout, one walk and four hits allowed. Will Harmon earned three outs while using seven pitches.
West Greene 4, Carter 3
The West Greene baseball team took down Carter, the No. 8 ranked team in Class 3A, 4-3 on Thursday night.
The Buffaloes earned seven hits in the win. Ethan Carpenter was 3-for-3 with a run scored. Braden McCamey was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two walks. Jhonen Bath had a double with an RBI. Brandon Hunter also knocked in a run.
On the mound McCamey earned the win. He threw five innings with eight strikeouts, five walks and two hits allowed. Jayden Cox threw two innings with four strikeouts, three walks and no hits allowed.
SOCCER
Hardin Valley 7, Greeneville 1
The Greeneville soccer team fell to Hardin Valley 7-1 on Thursday night.
Sam Gourley scored the first goal of the night to give Greeneville a 1-0 lead. Despite playing a man down for most of the night the Hawks scored the next seven goals to earn the win.
Hardin Valley out shot Greeneville 16-4. Greeneville’s Landen Creech made seven saves.
