BOWLING
The Greeneville Greene Devils and Carter Hornets came together in Newport at Victory Lanes to compete in a preseason scrimmage and to showcase high school bowling to the town of Newport in hopes to grow high school bowling in East Tennessee.
On the boys side Carter started off strong with Chandler rolling a 234, Ethan adding a 169 and Matthew winning his game late with a 144. Those three Hornets got Carter on the board
Greeneville answered with a strong showing of its own. Evan Metcalf led the way with 195, followed by Jake Harman with a 174 and Noah Bernard with a 158. The Greene Devils took five individual points and total pins by 64 pins to take the lead 7-3.
In game two Chandler kept the hot hand finishing his individual day with a 246. The Greene Devils took control of the match behind Bronson Brown’s 200, Jake Harman’s 193 and Quinten Scalf’s 186. The Greeneville lead stretched to 12.5-5.5
During the baker games Greeneville clinched the victory by splitting the baker games 169-168 and 109-155 and winning by a final score of 18.5-10.5
During the girls match, Zoe for the Hornets started where she left off at the state tournament by rolling a 171. The Lady Greene Devils answered with Lylli Sopha leading the way with a 187. Carly McLeod punched out a 176 and Madison Broyles added a 157. The Lady Greene Devils used those to jump out to a 6-2 lead
Game two saw the Greeneville lead grow to 12-4 behind Sophia’s 197 and McLeod’s 159. Carter kept things interesting with Kali adding a 168 and Callie adding a 140
Both teams spilt the baker games. Carter winning the first 127-110 and Greeneville taking the second 138-100 and sealing the victory 20-7
VOLLEYBALL
Chuckey-Doak 3, Unicoi County 0
The Chuckey-Doak volleyball team celebrated senior night on Thursday with a 3-0 win over Unicoi County 25-10, 25-17, 25-6.
Jacey Taylor had 12 kills, 13 digs and two aces for Chuckey-Doak. Isabelle Karriker had 11 kills, five aces, two blocks and 10 digs. Chloe Kirkpatrick had 33 assists, Macy Church had 14 digs, and Jayden Myers had six kills.
Sullivan East 3, Greeneville 0
The Greeneville volleyball team fell to Sullivan East 3-0 on Thursday night in District 1-AA action, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18.
West Greene 3, North Greene 1
West Greene volleyball defeated North Greene on Thursday night 3-1, 25-15, 19-25, 25-15, 26-24. The teams have now split the regular season series.
With the win West Greene moves into second place outright in District 1-A, but it will have to beat South Greene next week or count on North Greene losing to Hampton or Happy Valley to maintain that spot. South Greene is perfect in league play, West Greene has two losses and North Greene has three losses.
SOCCER
Chuckey-Doak 0, Volunteer 0
The Chuckey-Doak soccer team went to Volunteer on Thursday and had to settle for a 0-0 tie with the Lady Falcons.
