SOCCER
Greeneville 3, Gate City, Va. 2
The Greeneville soccer team picked up its eighth win in a row on Tuesday night, taking down Gate City, Virginia 3-2.
Emerson Hensley got the scoring started in the third minute when he finished a free-kick delivery from Sam Gourley.
Gate City tied it before halftime when Brody Sivert found the back of the net.
Three minutes into the second half Aidan Inscore headed in a cross from Hensley to put Greeneville back in front at 2-1.
Gate City’s Walker Hillman scored on a corner kick in the 53rd minute to tie things again at 2-2.
Hensley scored the go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute when he slammed home a penalty kick.
Hensley finished the night with two goals and one assist for Greeneville.
The Devils out shot Gate City 20-7 on Tuesday, with a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal.
SOFTBALL
North Greene 14, West Greene 3
The North Greene softball team picked up a 14-3 win over West Greene on Tuesday night.
The Lady Huskies got 11 hits from nine different batters. Destiny Fillers was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Charlie Turnmire went 2-for-2. Addi Dean and Eva Leonard each had two RBIs. Tralyn Southerland had a triple. Kinlea Eastep, Josie Graham and Baylee Lutz each had a double.
For West Greene Alexis Cutshall had a double and two RBIs. Abagale Jackson and Amanda Owens each had a single.
Charlie Turnmire earned the win for North Greene. In five innings she struck out eight, walked two, and allowed three hits.
Jackson took the loss. In four innings she struck out one, walked seven and allowed 11 hits.
Johnson County 13, South Greene 7
The South Greene softball team went to Johnson County on Tuesday and fell 13-7.
The Lady Rebels earned 11 hits in the loss. Paisley Brobeck was 4-for-4 with a homerun, two doubles and four RBIs. Sadie Knowles was 2-for-4 with a triple. Reagan Arrowood went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Kortnei Bailey took the loss. In five innings she struck out seven, walked five and allowed five hits with one earned run. South Greene’s defense made six errors on Tuesday.
BASEBALL
West Greene 6, South Greene 5
In the opening round of the District 1-2A Baseball Tournament on Tuesday night West Greene earned a 6-5 walk-off win over South Greene.
Ethan Carpenter delivered the winning blow for the Buffaloes in the bottom of the seventh inning when he sent a groundball up the middle that knocked in Seth Julian.
Brandon Hunter earned the win in relief on Tuesday. After the Buffaloes fell behind 3-0 Hunter struck out one, walked one and allowed one hit in 3.2 innings.
At the plate West Greene earned six hits. Jayden Cox, Brandon Hunter, Aidan Willett, Bronson Brown, Christian Hunter and Carpenter all had one hit. Christian Hunter had two RBIs.
For South Greene Cameron Kinser was 2-for-4 with a double. Colten Fillers was 2-for-3.
Fillers threw 5.1 innings with one strikeout, four walks and four hits allowed. Kinser threw 1.1 innings with no strikeouts, one walk and two hits allowed.
