SOCCER
Chuckey-Doak 3, Pigeon Forge 2
The Chuckey-Doak soccer team pulled off the upset of the season on Tuesday night when it took down Pigeon Forge 3-2 in the semifinals of the District 1-A Tournament.
The Tigers were the top seed in the district and the No.2 ranked team in the state in Class A.
Ryland Grindstaff scored two goals for the Black Knights and Dom Hanhlen put in one goal. Jesus Rojas assisted on all three of them.
The Black Knights will be back in action on Thursday at Gatlinburg-Pittman in the district championship game. The win also clinches a berth in next week’s Region 1-A Tournament.
Greeneville 6, Cherokee 0
The Greeneville soccer team took down Cherokee 6-0 on Tuesday in the District 2-AA Tournament semifinals.
The Greene Devils got two goals from Aidan Inscore, and one goal each from Emerson Hensley, Addison Lenker, , Chris Lopez and Remi Elyze-Vital.
The Greene Devils move on to play Volunteer on Thursday in the district championship game, and with Tuesday win they advance to next week’s Region 1-AA Tournament.
SOFTBALL
South Greene 12, Johnson County 1
The South Greene softball team took down Johnson County 12-1 on Tuesday night in the District 1-2A Tournament semifinals.
With the win South Greene advances to the district championship game where it will meet Unicoi County on Thursday, and it clinches a berth in next week’s Region 1-2A Tournament.
The Lady Rebels produced 13 hits from eight different batters on Tuesday. Hailey Williamson was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Kortnei Bailey was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Regan Arrowwod was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Paisley Brobeck had a two-run home run. Whitney Reaves had two hits and Bailey Burrell had a double.
In the circle Bailey had five strike outs, three walks and four hits allowed.
Volunteer 4, Greeneville 3
In the winners bracket finals of the District 2-3A Softball Tournament Greeneville fell to Volunteer 4-3 in eight innings.
The Lady Falcons went in front in the top of the eighth inning when Emersyn Templeton put a two-out triple into right field that scored Timber McLain.
Greeneville produced nine hits on Tuesday. Brooke Parsley was 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Kaley Garland was 3-for-4. Gabby Atchison had a two-run home run.
In the circle Brynlee Jones threw all eight innings with eight strikeouts, three walks and eight hits allowed.
Unicoi County 19, West Greene 0
The West Greene softball team saw its season come to an end on Tuesday in semifinals of the District 1-2A Tournament after a 19-0 loss to Unicoi County.
The Lady Buffaloes were held to two hits. Abagale Jackson and Miranda Hunter each had a single.
Abby Cluesman took the loss. In two innings she walked two and allowed seven hits.
TRACK AND FIELD
At the Class A East Section Track Meet at Eagleton a handful of local athletes clinched berths in the state track meet coming up on May 19 in Knoxville.
South Greene’s Alexa Gabbard won the triple jump.
In the pole vault West Greene Neveah Rowe was first and South Greene’s Sienna Gabbard was second. Both will advance to state.
In the shot put South Greene Heath Norton was second and in the discus North Greene’s Natalie Foshie was second. Both will be going to state.
Chuckey-Doak’s Landon Brown earned his state berth by placing second in the 300-meter hurdles.
The South Greene girls 4×800 meter relay team of Ava Leasure, Chelsea Metcalf, Alexa Gabbard, and Sienna Gabbard, and the mixed 4×400 meter relay team of Tripp Neas, Noah Case, Alexa Gabbard and Ava Leasure qualified for state.
