Greeneville 9, Claiborne 0
On Tuesday the Greeneville soccer team took down Claiborne 9-0 in the semifinals of the District 2-AA Tournament.
The Lady Devils got two goals from Matea Gray, Vivian Kammerdiener and Aliyah Johnson, and one goal each from Kinsley Spradlen, and Julieann Raby.
Greeneville will play again on Thursday against Volunteer for the district championship.
VOLLEYBALL
Sullivan East 3, Chuckey-Doak 2
Playing in its first region championship game in 31 years the Chuckey-Doak volleyball team started strong on Tuesday and built a 2-0 lead, but Sullivan East came storming back to capture 3-2 victory (24-26, 21-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-9) in the Region 1-AA title game.
Both teams move on the Class AA State Sectionals, but Chuckey-Doak will have to travel to Region 2-AA champion Seymour on Thursday.
South Greene 3, West Greene 1
The South Greene volleyball team won its eighth consecutive Region 1-A Tournament on Tuesday, taking down West Greene 3-1 in the finals, 18-25, 25-16, 25-20, 28-26.
Both South Greene and West Greene advance to Thursday’s state sectionals, but by winning on Tuesday South Greene earned one more home game as it tries to advance to the state tournament for the 17th consecutive season. West Greene will be trying to get back to the state tournament for the first time since 2000.
In the semifinals on Thursday South Greene beat Eagleton 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-14), and West Greene beat Washburn 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-17).
