Chuckey-Doak 3, Sullivan East 1
The Chuckey-Doak Lady Black Knights had to comeback from a one goal deficit to get a 3-1 victory on the road versus Sullivan East on Tuesday.
In the 26th minute the Lady Patriots took a hard shot that nipped a CD defender which changed the balls path just enough to squeeze into the net for the early 1-0 Sullivan East lead.
Just three minutes later, CD senior Betsie Ramirez smashed the ball toward the goal that glanced off a Lady Patriot defender and into the goal for the 1-1 tie.
With eight minutes left in the first half, Ramirez found Caitlin Larsen making a forward run and after receiving the pass and sprinting past everyone Larsen put the ball into the net for a 2-1 Lady Black Knights lead
The second half was a true even battle with both teams attacking with numbers but neither finding the goal, until the 79th minute. Chuckey-Doak sophomore speedster, Kati Surber, received a through ball at full speed and only had one defender to beat. The Patriot defender grabbed Surber in a desperate attempt to prevent a goal and was whistled for the foul. Caitlin Larsen calmly buried the resulting penalty kick and the final whistle blew with CD in the lead 3-1.
The Lady Black Knights led by defenders Jakindsey Church, Kennah Marshall, and Serenity Roper and midfielders Kenley Merriam, Lindsey Rojas, and Brianne Bowen had to dig deep to come from behind on the road and earn the victory. CD keeper, Sarah Yates, had six saves in goal.
The Lady Black Knights improve to 7-2 overall and host Unicoi County Thursday for a 5:30 kickoff.
