CROSS COUNTRY
The Greeneville boys cross country team ran away with the Twin Lakes Conference Championship on Tuesday at Holston Home.
The Greene Devils took the top five spots in the boys race with Trey Bailey leading the way with a course record time of 16:10.83. Isaac Gibson was second in 17:26.85, Grant Tunnell third, Jules Richard fourth and Carter Raby fifth.
Cherokee was second, Chuckey-Doak third and South Greene fourth in the team standings.
Chuckey-Doak was led by Benjamin Merrill who placed eighth in 19:13.54. Collin Lovins was 13th, Blake Lippard 15th, Logan Malone 18th and Landon Brown 20th.
Noah Case led South Greene with a seventh place finish in 19:12.39. Jayden Laycek was 16th, Gabriel McKinney 19th, Aiden Hawk 25th and Blake Tweed 30th.
Cherokee ran away with the girls race with seven of the top eight finishers. Elin Bryan led that effort by placing first in 21:42.81.
South Greene was the only other program that qualified for a team score. Chelsea Metcalf was fifth overall in 23:20.30. Ava Leasure was 10th, Riley Walters 14th, Mackenzie Johnson 16th, and Barbera Costa-Santos 17th.
For Greeneville Ashlynn Ranly was ninth in 25:03.34. Aley White was 11th, Susan Mullhollen 15th, and Vera McKinney 18th.
For Chuckey-Doak Cora Merrill was 12th in 26:36.12.
VOLLEYBALL
South Greene 3, Gibson County 1
The South Greene volleyball team carried out a 3-1 win (25-14, 9-25, 25-10, 25-21) over Gibson County to begin its 17th-straight appearance in the State Tournament.
Emma Padgett was the main source of offense for South Greene with Kortnei Bailey and Whitney Reaves serving as senior leaders with spurts of offense to help.
The Lady Rebels advanced to the semifinals of the Class A State Tournament on Wednesday with an early date with Eagleville at 9:30 AM CT. The winner advances to Friday’s championship and the loser falls to Thursday’s consolation bracket.
Creek Wood 3, Chuckey-Doak 1
The Chuckey-Doak volleyball team took the floor in the state tournament for the first time on Wednesday but fell to Creek Wood 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18) in the Class AA quarterfinals.
The Lady Black Knights have been eliminated from championship contention, and have fallen into the consolation bracket. They will play again on Wednesday at 5 pm CT against Upperman.
SOCCER
Greeneville 5, Sullivan East 0
The Greeneville girls soccer team took down Sullivan East 5-0 on Tuesday in the Region 1-AA Tournament semifinals and clinched its 16th consecutive region championship appearance.
Peyton Vaught scored two goals on Tuesday while Kinsley Spradlen, Vivian Kammerdeiner, and Aliyah Johnson all had one goal.
Greeneville moves on to the Region 1-AA championship game on Thursday where it will play at Elizabethton. Elizabethton beat Volunteer 5-0 on Tuesday.
