South Greene Girls, Morristown West Boys Claim Top Honors At Greeneville Track Meet

Several track teams from Greene County and East Tennessee came together Tuesday afternoon to open the high school track season at Greeneville’s Terry Hull Complex.  As temperatures began to fall, points began to rise.  At the end of the evening, Morristown West edged out Greeneville (225-121) on the boys’ side, while South Greene outlasted Greeneville on the girls’ (115-94).

Several local athletes performed well throughout the event.  Lady Rebels (Alexas Gabard Mackenzie Niston, and Ava Clark) finished 1, 2, & 3 in the high jump.

 

Niome Merrill, of Chuckey Doak took the pole vault honors, clearing 8 feet 6 inches.

West Greene’s Abbey Cox took home first place in the shot-put exceeding 31 feet, while Greeneville’s Jayla Gillespie was a close second at 30 feet.  Cox would also top the leaderboard by tossing the discuss 102 feet 10 inches.

Greeneville’s Olivia McClintock won the 100 meters

Chuckey Doak’s Laney Ricker won the 400.

 

Greeneville finished 1-2 in the pole vault as Jacob Moore cleared 12’6” and Hunter Ratliff 11’.

Greene Devil, Zayden Anderson jumped a little over 21 feet to win the long jump, while Isaiah Treadway of Chuckey Doak came in third with a jump of 20 feet 10 ½ inches.

Bryson Myers ended up in 3rd place (110’ 4”) in the discuss event, while Heath Norton came in 5th  (100’ 5”).

Second through fourth place in the 100-meter dash was separated by a mere 0.12 seconds.  Taren Clarity crossed the finish line in 11.8 seconds, while Thomas Lollar was close behind at 11.9 and Isaiah Treadway at 11.82.

The Greeneville Boys won the 4×100 by nearly a second and a half over Morristown West, 44.62 to the Trojans 46.06

The Greeneville girls won the 4×800 team relay with a time of 11:39.26 over South Greene’s time of 12:42.78

Sevier County won the Girls 4×100 at 53.68 over Greeneville 54.18.  Cocke County Lady Red won the 4×200 relay with a time of 1:56.58 over Greeneville’s time of 1:59.56

Freshman, Trey Bailey won the 1600 meters event in a little over 5minutes and 6 seconds, while Isaac Gibson came in 4th and Grant Tunnell 5th.
