GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Trevecca Nazarene University defeated Tusculum University 3-1 in non-conference women’s soccer Wednesday afternoon at Pioneer Field.
Anna Farrell had a goal and an assist for the Trojans (6-3-1), who picked up their third straight victory in their first-ever meeting with the Pioneers (1-8-0). Anna Allen and Kylie Bradshaw also scored for Trevecca, while Caroline Heintzelman scored on a corner kick for the Pioneers.
Mary Bauchou had nine saves in goal for the Trojans while Julia Olsson made three saves for the Pioneers. Both teams finished with 11 shots and each side had four corner kicks.
Tusculum had the first three shots on goal in the match in the opening 10 minutes, but Bauchou made saves on Carme Escamilla, Ryan Fair and Tanna Bookhamer. Trevecca Nazarene’s first shot was in the 20th minute but Olsson made the stop on the attempt from Farrell.
Trevecca Nazarene went up 1-0 at 23:45 as Farrell headed in a cross from Olivia Ulfvin for her third goal of the season. The Trojans nearly went ahead 2-0 in the 29th minute but Olsson tipped a shot from Kayelee Maners off the crossbar.
Tusculum’s best chance of the first half came in the 38th minute when Savanna Mackie ended up all alone in front of Bauchou, but her header attempt was pulled in for the save.
In the second half, Trevecca Nazarene needed just 31 seconds to go up 2-0 as a feed from Kate Nelson went to Allen and she finished off her second goal of the season.
Just over two minutes later, the Pioneers got on the board on an odd goal as a corner kick from Heintzelman was allowed to come through by the Trojan defender, and the ball continued into the net for her first career goal at 47:50.
The Pioneers had a flurry at the 56th minute, with Bauchou getting a fingertip on a shot from Rishling that went off the far post and went to Gabby Stone, whose second chance was smothered by Bauchou. In the 72nd minute, Bauchou would make two more stops back-to-back on attempts from Rishling and Maia Scott.
Trevecca Nazarene would get an insurance goal at 83:16 as Farrell passed ahead to Elsa Bengtsson, who crossed to Bradshaw for a finish at close range for her third of the year.
Tusculum will visit Anderson on Saturday, Oct. 3 beginning at 5 p.m. The Trojans beat Clayton State 1-0 on Wednesday to improve to 6-2-1 overall and sit in second place in the SAC with a 3-0-1 league record for 10 points.
