GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — The Tusculum University women’s beach volleyball team opened up the home portion of its schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Lynchburg on Wednesday (Mar. 4) afternoon.
Tusculum (3-2) hosts the season’s first conference weekend this Friday and Saturday (Mar. 6-7) at Hardin Park Beach Volleyball Complex. The Pioneers face Emmanuel and Erskine on day one before taking on Wingate and Catawba to close out the event.
Match 1: Tusculum 4, Lynchburg 1
The Pioneers used a sweep at the second flight to clinch the first match over the Hornets.
The 4’s of Ryann Gallagher and Jordyn Anderson notched the first points of the afternoon with a 22-20, 21-10 in the pairing’s debut.
Siri Aasgard and Ally Doty continued their perfect run at the No. 5 flight with a dominating 21-8, 21-9 score.
The exhibition flight went to Lynchburg as Beryn Hyland and Aubrey Justin fell in three sets: 21-12, 18-21, 15-9.
Hannah Marsh and Sylvia Liszewski ended a three-match skid with their victory in the second flight, clinching the match for TU: 21-13, 21-7.
At No. 3 were the Sofias: Sofia Richmond and Sofia Vega Barrantes. They edged out their opposite by scores of 21-16, 21-18.
The lone loss was at the top slot as Brynn Smith and Dasha Nikolaeva nearly pulled off a comeback, falling 21-13, 16-21, 17-15.
Match 2: Tusculum 5, Lynchburg 0
It took TU just over two hours to close out the day with a clean sweep of Lynchburg.
Gallagher and Anderson dropped to the fifth flight and made quick work of their opposites, winning 21-9, 21-8.
Kyra Klouzek and Maddie Labossiere made their season debuts at the No. 6 slot, tallying a 21-15, 22-20 result.
Aasgard and Doty rallied to earn their sixth win of the season and first at the fourth flight, pulling off a 19-21, 21-16, 15-11 comeback.
Once again, the 2’s clinched, this time with Marsh and Vega Barrantes and a 22-20, 21-14 score.
Liszewski teamed up with Cooper George at No. 3, winning by identical 21-14, 21-14 set scores.
Smith and Nikolaeva completed a thrilling comeback at the top spot to finish off the sweep by scores of 10-21, 24-22, 15-13.
