GULF SHORES, Ala. — The Tusculum University women’s beach volleyball team swept its second-straight day at the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Small College Beach Championships to win the Bronze Bracket.
Tusculum (15-15) ends their season on a four-match winning streak to even their record at .500.
Match 1: Tusculum 3, Erskine 1
The Pioneers beat the Flying Fleet for the fourth time this season, this time on the national stage.
Hannah Marsh and Brynn Smith made quick work of the top Erskine pair by scores of 21-9, 21-14.
Kyla Oppenhuis and Landry Tea edged out the No. 4 flight with a 21-14, 21-17 decision.
Mia Johnson and Kassidy Mercado dropped a close result at No. 2 by a 21-15, 21-19 margin.
Nyah Goss and Katie Murphy clinched the victory with a three-set outcome at No. 5: 21-15, 18-21, 15-9.
Match 2: Tusculum 3, Emmanuel 0
TU moved to 3-1 against the Lions in 2025, beating the Georgia team with more emphasis in each meeting.
At No. 2, Johnson and Mercado finally broke through for their first victory as a duo, tallying a 21-14, 21-11 result.
Oppenhuis and Tea eased by their No. 4 opposites by scores of 21-14, 21-12.
For the second time on the day, Goss and Murphy clinched the match. The fifth flight duo withstood the Lions by the minimum two points in each set: 21-19, 22-20.
