The West Greene Boys did not fair as well as they had just one night earlier with a big win over cross country North Greene, instead the Buffs had a rough outing against the David Crockett Pioneers and fell 58-37.
Buff Head Coach Allen Tolliver said, “We got away form everything we’ve done all season. We took steps backwards tonight, that was not the same team I watched last night against North Greene. I know we only had a day to prepare. That’s on me, we need to get that corrected.”
With the game tied at 5-5 the Pioneers went on a scoring spree with Caleb Eaves leading the way. Eaves made all four of his shots in the first quarter while the Buffaloes were cold as ice. By the end of the first quarter the Buffs were in a big hole trailing 18-7.
Josiah Dawson hit a shot just seconds into the second quarter, but Eaves was back in the lane with a layup and Cam Gouge’s triple had the Pioneers back up 23-9. Dawson dropped a triple from the elbow and Elijah Williams had a three-point play the hard way, but the Pioneers maintained their hot streak leading 35-19 at the half.
In the third quarter Luke Heck had back-to-back buckets for West Greene, but every time the Buffs would score the Pioneers would keep pace and the Buffs couldn’t gain any ground.
West Greene did manage to get within 13 points when Heck hit a step-back three from behind the arc at 43-30 with two minutes left in the third period, but the end of the quarter the pioneers were up 16 again at 48-32.
In the fourth quarter both coaches emptied their benches, and the Pioneers went on the win 58-37.
Dawson led the Buffs in scoring with 19 points. Eaves led the Pioneers with 20 points.
