TRACK AND FIELD
East Section Pentathlon
South Greene’s Alexa Gabbard is the first local athlete to qualify for state after she won the Class A East Sectional Pentathlon on Monday at Eagleton.
She was first in the long jump, second in the 100 meter hurdles, second in the shot put, third in the high jump and fourth in the 800 meters.
South Greene’s Ava Leasure was 10th and won the 800 meters. Riley Walters was 11th and was fifth in the 800 meters. Navaeh Rowe of West Greene placed sixth.
In the Class A East Section Decathlon South Greene’s Tripp Neas sits in second place at the halfway point. His top finish was first place in the discus.
South Greene’s Ben Ballast is third overall and was first in the triple jump. Evan Stills sits in fifth place and placed third in the discus.
Volunteer Classic
Local athletes competed in one of the biggest track meets in the area with dozens of teams from eight states traveled to Knoxville for the Volunteer Classic.
Greeneville’s Trey Bailey was the top local finisher, winning the 3,200 meters in 9:11.78. He was second in the 1,600 meters in 4:20.93.
The Greene Devils 4×800 relay team placed eighth.
For South Greene Alexa Gabbard had a big meet. She was seventh in the triple jump at 33’10.75″ and eight in the long jump at 16’10.25″.
BASEBALL
Chuckey-Doak 10, University High 5
The Chuckey-Doak baseball team beat University High 10-5 on Monday evening.
At the plate Kiptyn Ball was 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Gavin Crum went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Lynkin Cutshaw went 3-for-4 with tree RBIs. Cooper Seay was 2-for-4 with two doubles. Dom Atchison was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
On the mound Cutshaw went 4.1 innings with 10 strikeouts, six walks and two hits allowed.
Daniel Boone 20, South Greene 0
The South Greene baseball team fell to Daniel Boone 20-0 on Monday.
The Rebels were no-hit by Trailblazer pitcher Braden Gore who struck out seven and walked one.
Maddux Brown took the loss for South Greene. In .2 innings he struck out none, walked three and all six hits with 11 runs. Three of those were earned runs.
Cameron Kinser was most effective on the mound. In 1.1 innings he struck out none, walked one and allowed two hits.
SOFTBALL
South Greene 10, West Greene 3
The South Greene softball team took down West Greene 10-3 on Monday in District 1-2A action.
The Lady Rebels earned 15 hits in the win with seven players earning multiple hits. Paisley Brobeck 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Kortnei Bailey was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Nevaeh Davis and Saddie Knowles were both 2-for-4 with a double. Whitney Reaves, Hailey Williamson and Macy Roberts each had two hits.
For West Greene Abagale Jackson had a two-RBI double, and Alexis Cutshall had an RBI single.
Bailey earned the win. In seven innings she struck out six, walked two and allowed three hits.
Abby Cluesman took the loss. In six innings she struck out four, walked two and allowed 15 hits.
Chuckey-Doak 15, University High 7
The Chuckey-Doak softball picked up a 15-7 win over University High on Monday night.
At the plate Hayden Kenney went 4-for-5 for the Lady Black Knights. Hayleigh Seidle was 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs. Paylin Shelton went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Madisyn Miller was 2-for-5 with three runs scored. Elizabeth Manuel had a double and Jessie Dayton had two RBIs.
Manuel earned the win with nine strikeouts, one walk and 12 hits allowed.
North Greene 17, Hampton 5
The North Greene softball team picked up a 17-5 win over Hampton on Monday.
North Greene got 13 hits from nine different batters. Josie Graham was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Matti Phillips was 2-for-4 with a double. Tralyn Southerland went 2-for-2 and Kylee Listek was 2-for-3. Eva Leonard was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Heidi Trentham and Addi Dean each had two RBIs.
Matti Phillips earned the win. She struck out six, walked two and allowed seven hits.
