Sports fans are familiar with that rookie phenom that bursts onto the scene and is very successful during their time within athletics. These same athletes, however, sometimes struggle to live up to those same expectation levels during year two and go through the proverbial “sophomore slump”.
Greeneville’s Zaydyn Anderson, who competed in three sports, did not experience this drop-off. During 23-24 school year, he helped the Greene Devil football team reach the state semi-finals, the basketball team capture another district championship and advance to the region semi-finals, but he was also part of the TSSAA state championship track and field team, where he captured two individual state titles himself.
This past week, the National High School Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association announced that he could now add one more accolade to his list of accomplishments. He was 1 of 395 high school athletes from Tennessee to meet all of the qualifications to be named to the inaugural All-American team.
