Following a 12-win season in 2022 and a trip to the State Quarterfinals, the Greene Devils enter 2023 with a hungry feeling looking to continue their climb their way back into state title contention. Greeneville wouldn’t taste defeat until the final game of the season last season, but the Greene Devils will face one of the toughest schedules in 4A this year.
The regular season begins on August 18 on the road in Bristol as the Greene Devils make the trip for a matchup with Tennessee High and will follow that with a similar trip down the road to Kingsport to face Dobyns-Bennett on August 25. Greeneville will open the Burley Stadium season on September 1 as they’ll host conference foe Cherokee.
One of the most highly anticipated games in the state will be on Thursday, September 7 as the Greene Devils will host Alcoa for a “Rivalry Thursday” showdown. Following that, Greeneville will host Morristown West, who gave the Greene Devils a scare in 2022 only losing by seven.
Greeneville will return to the road on September 22 for a conference game with Volunteer before concluding the home stretch of the regular season with back-to-back games on October 6 and October 20 against Sullivan East and Grainger respectively.
The 2023 regular season will end on the road for Greeneville as they’ll travel to Northview Academy on October 20 and conclude the regular season against arch-rival Elizabethton on October 27 in one final showdown before the playoffs.
