We at Greene Sports Zone are excited to introduce you to our 2025 All-Greene County Football Team. After an amazing year on the gridiron where teams reached new heights and players earned new spots in the record books there were plenty of athletes worthy of consideration.
Players were selected based on production and impact during the 2025 season. The team was selected by the staff of Greene Sports Zone with input from area coaches. We at Greene Sports Zone covered more Greene County football than anyone else this season, we were the only outlet at every single game, we did more interviews with coaches than anyone else, and we feel we have a greater understanding of the game than any competing outlet. Because of that we feel we are most qualified to give you the best All-Greene County Football Team, so without further ado here is the All-County team, the defense.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR – Charlie Lane, South Greene
South Greene senior Charlie Lane flew all over the field this season and was the top tackler in Greene County while leading a defense that only allowed 18 points per game. For that he has been selected as our Greene Sports Zone Defensive Player of the Year.
Lane finished the season with an impressive 93 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.
He was also an important part of South Greene’s offense. Lane ran for 414 yards and averaged 14.8 yards per carry. He led South Greene in receiving with 13 catches for 288 yards, averaging 22 yards per catch. He accounted for nine total touchdowns.
Lane was named the Region 1-2A Defensive Player of the Year.
Zorian Harris, Greeneville – Defensive Line
Zorian Harris was a force in the middle of the defensive line for Greeneville and he was named the Region 1-4A Defensive Player of the Year. He finished the year with 58 tackles, an impressive 17 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, one sack and 12 quarterback pressures.
Harris was also a starter on the offensive line at guard and helped the Greene Devils average 416.3 yards and 43.7 points per game.
Justin Chandler, Greeneville – Defensive Line
Justin Chandler was a imposing presence at defensive end for Greeneville this season. He was named first-team All-Region 1-4A. He finished the year with 49 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, two sacks and seven quarterback pressures.
Gustavo Alvarez, Chuckey-Doak – Defensive Line
Chuckey-Doak freshman defensive tackle Gustavo Alvarez caused plenty of problems for opposing offenses as he led the county with five sacks this season. He had 24 tackles, four tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He was also one of the Black Knights’ top blockers on offense in his first season of high school football.
Peyton Hilton, West Greene – Defensive Line
Peyton Hilton was West Greene’s most impactful defender this season and finished with a team high 55 tackles. He had five tackles for loss, three sacks, six blocked kicks and he returned a fumble for a touchdowns.
On offense he had eight catches for 103 yards. He was first team All-Region 1-2A.
Leon Johnson, North Greene – Linebacker
Leon Johnson was a tackling machine this season for North Greene as he led the Huskies with 85 total tackles. He made five tackles for a loss, one sack and one forced fumble.
On offense Johnson had a big year as well. He ran 77 times for 454 yards and scored 10 rushing touchdowns. He added 52 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Jack Lister, Greeneville – Linebacker
Greeneville junior Jack Lister was active all over the field in his junior season and became one of the most important pieces of the Greene Devils’ defense. He led Greeneville with 80 tackles while making 13 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Lister also had one sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and two pass break ups. He was named the Region 1-4A Newcomer of the Year.
Tegan Begley, Greeneville – Linebacker
Tegan Begley entered Greeneville’s lineup midway through the regular season, but that did not stop him from making an impact on the Greene Devils run to the state semifinals. He finished the year with 66 tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, one fumble recovery, one interception, and one forced fumble.
On offense Begley ran 43 times for 304 yards and four touchdowns.
Trent Haynes, South Greene – Linebacker
South Greene freshman Trent Haynes burst onto the scene this season and immediately made his presence felt. He was second on the team with 67 tackles and he intercepted four passes.
On offense he added 142 yards rushing and three touchdowns. He was named first team All-Region 1-2A.
Shawn Ownby, South Greene – Defensive Back
South Greene’s Shawn Ownby was a problem for opposing quarterbacks this season as he forced five interceptions. He also had 30 tackles for the Rebels. He was named first-team All-Region 1-2A.
Kaine Ricker, Greeneville – Defensive Back
Kaine Ricker was a stopper on the back end of Greeneville’s defense this season and was named the Region 1-4A Defensive Back of the Year. The junior made 56 tackles with three tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, six interceptions, and he returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown.
Maddox Bishop, Greeneville – Defensive Back
At Greeneville’s other safety spot Maddox Bishop also had a big year for the Greene Devils. He made 58 tackles with four tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, two interceptions, and three pass break ups.
On offense he carried the ball 56 times for 606 yards and eight touchdowns.
Taren Claridy, Greeneville – Defensive Back
Greeneville junior Taren Claridy caused nightmares for opposing offenses as he intercepted eight passes from his cornerback spot. He also had 49 tackles, 10 pass break ups, and two defensive touchdowns this season.
On offense Claridy had 32 catches for 517 yards and eight touchdowns. Claridy was the Region 1-4A Athlete of the Year.
Thomas Darnell, North Greene – Punter
Thomas Darnell was the leader of North Greene’ offense this season as he led the team to a second-place finish in Region 1-1A and for that he was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Year.
He was also a really good punter and averaged 41.7 yards per boot this season with a long of 55 yards.
At quarterback Darnell was 63-of-129 passing for 1,001 yards and 14 touchdowns. He ran for 722 yards and five more scores while averaging eight yards per carry.
On defense he made 17 tackles with two interceptions and touchdown.
Brandon Weems, North Greene – Kick Returner
Brandon Weems did a little bit of everything for North Greene this season, and the one thing he did better than anyone else was return kicks. Weems returned two kickoffs and one punt for touchdowns this season. He was the Region 1-1A Special Teams Player of the Year.
On offense he caught 41 passes for 636 yards and six touchdowns He ran nine times for 79 yards and two more touchdowns.
On defense Weems made 55 tackles, with two tackles for loss, two sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, one interception and one defensive touchdown.
