The Chuckey-Doak Black Knights will hop on the bus one last time this season as they close their season out with a road trip to visit No. 2 Gatlinburg-Pittman on Friday night.
Last week’s 25-18 loss to Pigeon Forge ended their hopes of reaching the postseason in November and for the second year in-a-row their season will end with a regular season game at Gatlinburg-Pittman. But you only get one chance to play high school football and the Black Knights have one more chance to suit up in black and gold on Friday night.
“There aren’t a lot of opportunities to do this. You can go play basketball, golf, baseball, slow-pitch softball until your body can’t take it anymore. You can be 65 out there playing in the old-school men’s league in the rec shooting basketball or whatever. But these opportunities are fleeting. Regardless of what happened last week we still get another chance. And the chance matters. It matters for our young guys in terms of how we’re going to go into our offseason. And for these old guys it’s their last ride and it’s one they’re going to remember,” Black Knights Head Coach Billy Kaylor stated.
The opponent is a formidable one. The Highlanders enter Friday’s contest ranked as the No. 2 team in the state of Tennessee in Class 3A. They are currently on an 11-game winning streak in the regular season. They average 40.7 points per game on offense and only allow an average of 9.5 points per game.
“A very talented football team. A lot of kids over there are really good football players. They do a really good job,” Kaylor said.
Chuckey-Doak’s offensive averages have declined since their 3-0 start and they average 18.8 points per game on offense while allowing 30.3 points per game. They are 4-5 (1-3) and have lost five of their last six after starting on a three-game heater. Quarterback Kiptyn Ball looks to finish his sophomore season strong with senior wideouts Dom Atchison and Dom Hahnlen looking to finish their time at Chuckey-Doak with an upset win. The dual-threat rushing attack of Brayden Greene and Marcus Britt look to make an impact in the running game.
The Black Knights are 0-11 in the all-time series with the Highlanders. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School.
