Eagles End Pioneers’ Win Streak

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Tusculum University women’s volleyball team suffered its first loss of October at the hands of the Carson-Newman Eagles on Tuesday (Oct. 14) night.

The Pioneers (7-8, 5-4 SAC) dropped the season series to the Eagles (14-3, 5-3 SAC) by scores of 25-11, 25-18, 25-13.

Maddie Hurst landed 15 kills on a .636 hitting percentage, just ahead of 10 kills by both Annie Dziczkowski (.714) and Emerson Ahsmuhs (.412). Blair Cherry dished out 39 assists, while Ahsmuhs recorded three service aces. Ahsmuhs rounded out her double-double with a match-high 11 digs. Bella Cardello assisted in a pair of blocks.

Karris Oller led Tusculum with an errorless eight kills (.615), followed by Grace VanZwieten and Jaida Alvin with seven and six kills, respectively. Rounding out the scoring were Mackenzie Land (5), Eliza Jewell Oliverius (2), Sadie Roach (1), Isabella Bianchin (1), and Adreana Lee (1). Victoria Church distributed 23 assists, while Maggie Kane and Land landed the TU aces. Land also led the Pioneers with four digs.

Carson-Newman hit .616 as a team with 49 kills and four errors on 73 total attempts. Tusculum hit .268 with 31 kills, nine errors, and 82 total attacks. The Eagles led the Pioneers in assists (48-29), service aces (8-2), digs (38-18), and total blocks (3-0).

Tusculum hosts the Anderson Trojans on Friday (Oct. 17) in the regular season’s lone meeting. First serve from Pioneer Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m.
