Greeneville, TN — In a commanding display of skill and determination, Greeneville High School’s soccer team triumphed over Cherokee in the district semifinals at Burley Stadium, securing an 8-0 victory to advance to the district championship on Thursday.
Senior night festivities added an extra layer of celebration to the match, as Greeneville honored nine seniors who have played pivotal roles in the team’s success throughout the season.
The game opened with a burst of energy from Greeneville, with Simon Holt finding the back of the net in the 7th minute. Holt capitalized on a deflected shot off the Cherokee keeper, unleashing a powerful strike from 18 yards out.
Greeneville maintained their momentum, adding two more goals before halftime courtesy of David Fisher and Samuel Gourley, taking a commanding 3-0 lead into the break.
The second half saw Greeneville further assert their dominance, with Brody Inscore tapping in an Austin Beets cross in the 49th minute to extend the lead. Over the next ten minutes, Fisher and Inscore each notched their second goals of the match, pushing Greeneville’s lead to an insurmountable 6-0 cushion.
Liam Polte added to Cherokee’s woes with a goal in the 65th minute, before Beets capped off the scoring in the 72nd minute, sealing Greeneville’s victory and their place in the district championship game.
The win extends Greeneville’s impressive streak of District Championship appearances, underscoring their dominance in district play, this senior class continued district success as Greeneville has won an unprecedented 79 straight district games. With their sights set on securing their 14th District Tournament Championship, Greeneville looks ahead to Thursday night’s championship showdown at Burley Stadium, where they aim to continue their legacy of success. Greeneville will host Grainger at 6pm.
