Greeneville’s Lady Devils travelled to Dumplin Valley Monday afternoon to face off with the Jefferson County Patriots and after jumping out to a 10-1 lead, held off the Patriots to win 10-7.
In the top of the first inning, a walk to Kyla Jobe and back-to-back singles from Madison Carpenter and Lydia Darnell loaded the bases and set the stage for a potential big inning. Lauren Million and Kayley Garland lifted sacrifice flies to drive in the first runs of the day. Stoan Rader and Leah Phillips both came up with two out singles to pick up the final two rbi’s of the inning and a 4-0 lead before the Lady Patriots came to bat.
After holding Jeff County to a 3 up and 3 down appearance, Jobe would lead off the second with a single, steal second, and then score on a Carpenter RBI single for a 5-0 lead.
The Patriots would pick up a run in the third to cut the score to 5-1. Things would stay that way until the Lady Devils would pick up 3 in the fifth and 2 more in the sixth to increase their advantage to 10-1.
The ladies from Dumplin Valley would not go away quietly as they scored 6 times in their final at bat, but Leah Phillips would relieve Brynlee Jones to silence the rally and end the game at 10-7.
Greeneville, now 9-6 on the season, is scheduled to host Grainger in conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Hardin Park. The first pitch is set for 5:30.
