The South Greene Lady Rebels look to continue their winning ways with a new year upon them in the 2024-25 season.
The Lady Rebels suffered a few setbacks last season after suffering their first losses in the not-so-newly realigned District 1-2A conference and had to deal with injuries and absences from key players from the season before.
After a long summer, Coach Stephen Gregg is back in charge once again and looks to respond with a new group of girls by his side.
This will be Stephen Gregg’s 15th season as South Greene’s Head Coach. Assistant Marc Wright will be alongside him once again.
They finished last season 20-11 (9-1) with a runner-up finish in the District 1-2A tournament to Hampton. Their season ended in their Region 1-2A tournament opener to Oneida. It was their earliest postseason exit under Coach Gregg’s tenure.
The Lady Rebels will be without a few missing pieces from last year’s lineup. Seniors Emma Cutshaw, Hailey Brooks, and Ava Clark all graduated and three new spots opened up in the starting lineup. Returning starters Kortnei Bailey and Ari Hoese will be two players that you can expect to play an abundance of minutes this season.
Senior Madison Hensley will be returning back to the program after a year away and will be expected to start. Senior Ryleigh Gregg will miss the 2024-25 season after suffering an injury during a volleyball game in October. Both are the only two seniors on this year’s team.
Kortnei Bailey, Ari Hoese, Natalie Foshie, Samantha Birdwell, Alexa Gabbard, Neveah Davis, Trinity Borner, Reagan Arrowood, Paisley Brobeck, and Macy Roberts lead a large group of juniors. Bailey, Hoese, Foshie, and Birdwell all played valuable minutes last season and will step into new leadership roles as returning upperclassmen.
No sophomores or freshmen are listed on the varsity roster.
South Greene is looking to correct last year’s bitter loss to end last season and make another deep playoff run like the program is accustomed to. Their conference will once again feature six teams. They are joined by West Greene, Chuckey-Doak, Happy Valley, Hampton, and Johnson County in District 1-2A. They will be eyeing another District 1-2A championship plaque to add to their trophy cases.
South Greene opens up with their first Hall of Champions game at Cherokee on Thursday.
