Greeneville hosted Dobyns-Bennett Wednesday afternoon at The Alley as both teams made final preparations for the upcoming TSSAA Individual Region 1 Tournament. While both squads took away valuable lessons heading into the weekend, it was the Indians who came away with a pair of 21-6 wins.
Dobyns-Bennett’s boys jumped out to an early 7-1 lead, rolling a 992 to Greeneville’s 851. Grayson Lockhart led the charge with a 203, followed by Ryan Barrett’s 177 and Dylan Brooks’ 165. Evan Litchfield paced the Greene Devils with a 187.
In the second game, the Indians extended their advantage by rolling a 964 to Greeneville’s 907, taking a 13-3 lead. Barrett continued his strong showing with a 180, while Brooks added a 173. Litchfield once again led the Devils with a 174, backed by Jon Gilbert’s 170 and Noah Stahlman’s 165.
Greeneville stayed alive by taking the first Baker game 162-139, but Dobyns-Bennett responded with a 152-124 win in the second to clinch the 21-6 victory.
“We’ve played some very competitive teams this year, and I’m proud of the way we never give up,” said Greeneville assistant coach David Painter. “We continue to battle and compete every match.”
In the girls’ contest, the Lady Indians took a narrow 5-3 lead after the opening game, edging Greeneville by just 48 pins (878-830). Kylie Price led the way with a 191, followed by Mackenzie Place with a 174. Addison Phillips paced the Lady Devils with a 146, and Carly McLeod was close behind with a 143.
Dobyns-Bennett swept all available points in the second game to stretch its lead to 13-3, led by Madison Wilson’s 192 and Rylie Grace Bridges’ 188. Breana Brown was Greeneville’s top bowler in the second game with a 127.
The Lady Devils showed resilience, taking the first Baker game 155-151 to stay alive. However, the Lady Indians secured the 21-6 win by claiming the final Baker game 143-130.
“Our girls showed a lot of life throughout the entire match,” said Greeneville head coach Johnny Painter. “We started off well and battled them tooth and nail in the first game. We kind of let the second game get away from us, but we stayed poised in the Baker games and even took the first one.”
Both teams, along with others from Region 1, will send individual bowlers to Johnson City on Saturday for the TSSAA Individual Qualifying Tournament. Each bowler will compete in six games on a sport-shot oil pattern across two pairs of lanes, with the top six scorers advancing to the TSSAA State Tournament in January at the Smyrna Bowling Center.
