Lincoln Memorial Takes 16-8 Victory Over Pioneers

HARROGATE, Tenn. — Josie Tinnerello scored six goals and Chandler Bell finished with two goals and six assists to lead Lincoln Memorial University to a 16-8 victory over Tusculum University in South Atlantic Conference women’s lacrosse Wednesday afternoon.

Amber Kirkpatrick added four goals and two assists for the Railsplitters (5-7, 4-2 SAC), who had scoring runs of three, four and five goals while finishing with a 35-21 shot advantage over the Pioneers (4-9, 2-5 SAC).

Kylie Marek led Tusculum with two goals and three assists and Cassidy Bourne added two goals and two assists. Jessie Carolin-Vandenberg, Zuza Stasiak, Lucy Brewer and Paetyn Hoffmann also scored for the Pioneers, who had just eight shot attempts in the second half.

Tusculum opened the scoring on a goal from Bourne just 1:24 into the first quarter, but Lincoln Memorial netted the next three goals to go up 3-1 with 7:00 remaining in the period. The Pioneers tied the game 3-3 on goals from Brewer and Marek, the latter with 2:46 to play, but Kirkpatrick responded 38 seconds later to put the Railsplitters up 4-3 after one quarter.

The Pioneers tied the game at 4-4 on a goal from Carolin-Vandenberg with 11:11 left in the second quarter, but Tinnerello scored with 10:37 remaining and again with 2:05 on the clock to give Lincoln Memorial a 6-4 lead at the half.

Lincoln Memorial stretched its lead to 9-4 six minutes into the third quarter, before Tusculum ended its goal drought at 18 1/2 minutes on a tally from Bourne with 7:38 remaining in the period. Tinnerello would add two more goals in the final three minutes of the frame to push the Railsplitters ahead 11-5 heading to the fourth.

The Pioneers scored three of the first four goals of the fourth quarter, with Marek, Stasiak and Hoffmann combining to cut the Railsplitters’ lead to 12-8 with 11:19 to go. However, Lincoln Memorial would score the final four goals of the afternoon.

Brewer led the Pioneers with six draw controls, while Liberty Jones had three ground balls and two caused turnovers and Celeste Raya finished with three ground balls and two draw controls. Ana Carney paced the Railsplitters with seven draw controls and Samantha Billingsley added six, with Jaedyn Ryba collecting three ground balls.

Lincoln Memorial finished the game with a 17-11 edge in draw controls over Tusculum, while the Railsplitters had 19 turnovers to 14 for the Pioneers. Tusculum also had a 16-13 advantage in ground balls over Lincoln Memorial.

Emily White finished with 12 saves in goal for the Pioneers, with Elle Miller making nine saves for the Railsplitters.
