A total of 119 high school fishing teams cast their lines on Douglas Lake Saturday for the second stop of the East Tennessee BASS Nation Tour. Of those, 53 teams secured a 5-fish limit, and 412 fish were brought to the scales. Hamblen County’s Cooper Aldridge and Dawson Shultz claimed first place with a limit weighing 13.95 pounds.
Chuckey-Doak’s Gibson brothers, Brodie and Kolbie, turned in a strong performance, finishing 39th with 4 fish totaling 7.91 pounds. Their teammates, Noah and Logan Mentz, brought in 2 fish weighing 4.03 pounds, earning 78th place.
South Greene’s Shane Williams landed 1 fish at 2.47 pounds, placing him 98th overall. Fellow Rebels Jaxen Taylor and Christian Darnell were forced to withdraw due to mechanical issues with their boat.
After two tour stops, Candyn Cranfill and Turner Tharpe (Kingston) along with Rex Reagan and Max Moody (Pickett County) sit atop the standings tied with 397 points. The Gibson brothers currently sit in the 21st position (330 points), while the Mentz brothers are 41st (290 points). Noah Wright and Shane Williams have earned 210 points (86th), and Taylor and Darnell hold 100 points (144th).
The tour will continue on February 21st at Chester Frost Park on Chickamauga Lake.
