Chuckey-Doak 47, West Greene 0
The Chuckey-Doak Middle football team made a statement on Thursday night and shutout West Greene 47-0 to pick up an important conference win over West Greene.
“They came out with the fire. They knew they were playing an in-county rival and they showed up and the scoreboard shows that,” Chuckey-Doak coach Nick Quillen said.
Brody Myers collected a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown, and Jackson Southerland hauled in a pair of touchdowns in the win. The Black Knights spread the wealth out as five different players scored touchdowns.
“That duo right there is gonna take us places this year. Very happy with Brody, very happy with Jackson, and very happy with all the receivers,” Quillen stated.
Myers first connected with Southerland for a 39-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage.
A very short punt gave Chuckey-Doak the ball on the 14-yard line. A handoff to Cooper Broyles resulted in a rushing touchdown and Zaiden Schacke’s two-point conversion made it 14-0.
On the very next play from scrimmage a strip sack by Braydon Brown saw the ball pop out and roll into the end zone. Israel Collazi pounced on it and was credited with the touchdown. Myers ran the two-pointer in and Chuckey-Doak led 22-0 with 2:16 left in the first.
A safety gave the Knights two more and they added six more with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Southerland only two plays after the safety. Collazi’s two-point conversion made it 32-0 after one quarter.
Brody Myers scored a 10-yard rushing touchdown next. Joseph Leeper scored the two-point conversion and helped Chuckey-Doak head into the half with a 40-0 lead.
Broyles hauled in a 56-yard touchdown in the fourth and Mikey Karriker nailed the extra point to set the final score.
After the win, Chuckey-Doak improved to 1-1. West Greene fell to 0-2 with the loss.
“It feels great. We’re not done. We’re not content. We have Boone next week and it’s another conference game. We’re going to celebrate this one tonight and come back Monday and we’re 0-0 ready to take care of Boone,” Coach Quillen ended with.
The Black Knights host Boone next Thursday at 6:00. The Buffaloes host Crockett next Thursday at 6:00.
