Baileyton– Thursday’s softball game between the North Greene Huskies and the Greeneville Greene Devils was a true picture of momentum swings.  Late in the game, it was the Devils who garnered the final push to take control of the game and come away with the 14-5 win.

Early on, it was the bat of Greeneville’s Kyla Jobe and the pitching of Brynlee Jones that served as the driving force.  Jobe started the game off with a solo blast that gave the Lady Devils the early advantage.  She followed it up in the 2nd inning with another blast, this time a three-run shot that pushed her team to the 4-0 lead.

Jones was cruising through the first three innings, only allowing two singles, one each from Matti Phillips and Loren Blevins.  Then in the fourth inning, the Huskies grabbed the momentum scoring three times on four hits (all singles).  With one out in the inning, Haley Bailey would single and advance to third when Blevins’ ground ball was misplayed.  They would both come in to score when Abby Parker drove a shot to left, cutting the score to 4-2.  Kinsley Sauceman would step to the plate and drive in the third run of the inning as she reached on an infield single.

Trailing 4-3, the Huskies were riding the momentum train into the fifth.  They would load the bases with nobody out behind singles from Hannah Brooks and Bailey, followed by a four-pitch walk to Blevins, ending Jone’s day in the circle.  Leah Phillips came to the circle in relief, looking to minimize the damage.  After getting the next Huskey hitter to strike out, an error allowed Bailey and Brooks to cross the plate, giving North Greene the 5-4 advantage.

It was in the top of the 6th when back-to-back doubles from Adi Lamons and Destani Bailey, followed by an intentional walk to Jobe and a single from Madison Carpenter would set the stage for an explosive inning.  Lydia Darnell would send a hard ground ball to center that went all the way to the wall, allowing her stand up on third with a 3-run triple.  Stoan Rader would reach on an error, driving in Darnell, and then would score the inning’s last run when Jones laced a double over the center fielder’s head, making the score 10-4.

The Lady Devils would tack on four more runs in the top of the 7th as they went station to station with five singles.  Phillips would pick up the win in three innings of relief work, while Brooks would suffer the loss.  Both teams will be back in action Friday when Greeneville will host Jefferson County at 5:30 and North Greene will travel to Hancock County.
