Olson Takes Third Straight Win In 60 Meters At Liberty Open

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Members of the Tusculum University men’s and women’s indoor track and field team competed on the second day of the Liberty Open on Saturday.

The Pioneers had entries in five men’s and five women’s events on Saturday, with junior Isaiah Olson taking the victory in the men’s 60 meters. Three Pioneer women competed in finals of sprint events on Saturday.

Tusculum will take next weekend off before their final meet prior to the South Atlantic Conference Championship, when the Pioneers take part in the JDL Last Chance Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 22.

MEN’S RECAP
Olson won the 60 meters for the third straight weekend with a time of 6.77 seconds, while freshman Mica Ruffin took third at 6.81 seconds.

In the shot put, junior Gavin Rowell had a career-best mark of 14.78 meters (48 feet, 5 3/4 inches) to take seventh place, with junior Adrian Gumm in 12th place at 14.44 meters (47 feet, 4 1/2 inches).

WOMEN’S RECAP
Junior Jahzara Hart took fourth place in the 60 meters at 7.55 seconds, with junior Kiera Taylor placing eighth at 7.77 seconds. In the 60 hurdles, junior Theresa Green-White finished third with a time of 8.61 seconds, the third-fastest of her career.

Freshman Qitarah Castlin was 16th in the 400 meters at 59.01 seconds, putting her seventh on the program performance list in the event. In the 800 meters, grad student Tashianna Gray ran 2:24.42 for the sixth-fastest time in program history.
