South Greene 60, Happy Valley 46
The South Greene boys basketball team picked up a District 1-2A win over Happy Valley on Tuesday night, 60-46.
Gavin Dyer led the way with 18 points, Noah Wright had 15 points, Cayden Fillers 10 and Will Arrowood scored nine points for the Rebels.
Grady Goulds led Happy Valley with 13 points.
Unicoi County 61, West Greene 39
The Unicoi County boys handed West Greene its first loss in District 1-2A action on Tuesday evening, 61-39.
The Blue Devils are now 3-0 in league play while the Buffaloes fall to 3-1.
Jackson Simmons led Unicoi County with 21 points and became the program’s all-time leading scorer in the process with 2,378 career points.
Josiah Dawson scored 14 points for West Greene while Tytus Shelton put in 12 points.
North Greene 51, University High 48
The North Greene boys basketball team made the right plays late to capture a 51-48 win over District 1-1A foe University High on Tuesday night.
Thomas Darnell led the Huskies with 14 points, Isaac Gaby had 12 and Tyler Britton put in 11.
Janson West led University High with 21 points.
Bearden 78, Greeneville 52
GIRLS
South Greene 48, Happy Valley 38
The South Greene girls improved to 3-0 in District 1-2A play after beating Happy Valley 48-38 on Tuesday.
Kortnei Bailey led the Lady Rebels with 14 points and Ari Hoese added 10 points.
Bailee Jarrett scored 12 points for Happy Valley.
West Greene 40, Unicoi County 31
The West Greene girls improved to 2-1 in District 1-2A play on Tuesday night by taking down Unicoi County 40-31.
Joie Shipley and Emily Justis scored 10 points each to lead the Lady Buffaloes.
Abigail Vidrio led Unicoi with 10 points.
North Greene 69, University 19
Despite missing two starters the North Greene girls were able to earn their first District 1-1A win of the year, 69-19 over University High.
Tralyn Southerland led all scorers with 22 points, Eva Leonard hit from deep four times to score 14 points, and Natalie Foshie put in 11 points for the Lady Huskies.
WRESTLING
The Greeneville wrestling team captured the District 2-A Duals Tournament title on Tuesday night by sweeping Chuckey-Doak, Cocke County and West Greene in round-robin action.
The Greene Devils started the day with a 74-6 win over Chuckey-Doak, followed with a 75-0 win over West Greene and finished the night with a 65-18 win over Cocke County.
Chuckey-Doak finished in second place and will also advance to next week’s Region 1-A Tournament.
The Black Knights tied Cocke County 42-42, but took the victory through the fifth tie-breaking criteria which was most pins. That allowed Chuckey-Doak to advance to the regionals.
Chuckey-Doak finished the night with a 54-12 win over West Greene
Cocke County beat West Greene 54-5.
