The South Greene Rebels were all business in Friday night’s matchup with North Greene and carried out a 56-7 beating of the Huskies on Homecoming Night on Rebel Hill.
It was South Greene and North Greene’s first meeting since 2022 and it was a night South Greene wanted to make sure nobody forgot. The offense produced 556 total yards of offense and didn’t send the punt team out once all game. Nash Rader combined for six total touchdowns and 243 total yards in the win and Tripp Neas led the rushing attack with 13 rushes for 220 yards and a touchdown.
“Super proud of everybody that played tonight. When you get 556 yards that means you did something right. We rushed for over 400 and Nash did a great job, Tripp and our running backs did a great job, but the line was where it was tonight. They played their butts off. I’ve been on them all year. Shoutout to them. I always told them when we win big games like this it’s all behind them,” South Greene head coach Shawn Jones
The Rebels won their third-straight game on Friday and improved to 3-1 on the year. North Greene evens their record at 2-2 with the loss.
Starting out hot was essential for South Greene to set the tone for what was to come. North Greene drove into South Greene territory on their first drive, but stalled out with a turnover on downs at the 25-yard line. South Greene marched 75 yards in 3:20 for its first scoring play. Rader dashed for a 34-yard rushing touchdown to give the Rebels a 6-0 lead halfway through the first.
The Huskies crossed midfield again, but a short screen pass was intercepted by Trent Haynes and set South Greene up at its own 37-yard line. Neas only needed one play to drive the ball to the two-yard line with a huge 61-yard pickup. Rader did the rest for a two-yard touchdown and ran in the two-point conversion to make it 14-0 at the end of one.
A North Greene punt finally stopped rolling at the 10-yard line and forced South Greene to go the full field on their next drive. The challenge was met and the Rebels went 90 yards in 4:16. Rader scored his third touchdown on the third drive of the game from six yards out to lift South Greene ahead 21-0.
Nash Rader dominated all night long and finished with 99 rushing yards on eight attempts with three touchdowns. He was 6-for-7 passing with 144 yards and three more touchdowns.
“The line came out and they were doing their part and they left it up to us backs and as long as the line is giving us holes, we’re gonna hit them and we’re going as far as we can go with it,” Rader stated.
He also talked about the week’s preparation and game planning. “We’ve studied film all week. Perfected our game plan and knew what we were coming out here to do. They were talking all week to us and we knew we had to come out here and play.”
It took South Greene only one play to score next. Rader delivered a shovel pass to Charlie Lane and he turned on the jets for a 47-yard touchdown to go up 28-0 with 4:31 left in the second.
Shawn Ownby ran under an overthrown pass from North Greene’s Thomas Darnell and intercepted his pass and flipped the field.
“We’re super proud of him. At the start of the year, we didn’t know where he was going to play and he’s a great athlete. We began to move him around and he’s found his niche there at safety,” Coach Jones mentioned.
Nash Rader found Charlie Lane across the middle for a 30-yard receiving touchdown for their second scoring connection of the contest.
Up 35-0, the Rebels weren’t done yet. Ownby jumped under another pass from Darnell and picked off the Husky quarterback again on the second-straight drive.
On offense, Simon Burns leaped up for a 30-yard catch to set up Tripp Neas with a 30-yard screen pass touchdown from Nash Rader.
South Greene led North Greene 42-0 at the half. The Rebels had six offensive drives in the first half and ended every single one of them with a touchdown.
The second play of the second half resulted in another touchdown with Tripp Neas outrunning every Husky defender for a 58-yard touchdown to boost the lead to 49-0. He finished with 220 yards on 13 rushes.
“I say this again, it all starts up front. We had close to 400 rushing yards in total on offense. It all starts up front,” Neas mentioned.
North Greene put its first scoring drive together on its next possession. Leon Johnson picked up 38 yards on a screen pass and Brandon Weems completed a 16-yard catch to carry the Huskies into the red zone. Brayden Weems stretched out at the goal line and broke the plain for a four-yard touchdown for North Greene to make it 49-7.
Trent Haynes carried the rock to the end zone one more time with a 25-yard rushing touchdown for South Greene.
South Greene finished off the night with a 56-7 win over North Greene on Homecoming. Madison Darnell was named Homecoming Queen prior to the game.
The Rebels are set for another county clash next week when they host the Chuckey-Doak Black Knights next week. North Greene returns back to Baileyton to host Cosby.
