GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — The Tusculum University women’s beach volleyball team finished Saturday’s (Apr. 11) matches as the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas tournament runner-up. With her win against Catawba, Hannah Marsh now owns the program’s career wins record.
Earning all-tournament team honors for the Pioneers were: Hannah Marsh/Sofia Vega Barrantes and Brynn Smith/Sylvia Liszewski.
Tusculum (12-19) will finish out its season at the AVCA Small College Beach Championship next weekend (Apr. 17-19) in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Match 1: No. 3 Tusculum 3, No. 5 Catawba 2
The Pioneers used a No. 2 victory against the Catawba Indians to clinch a berth in the tournament championship match.
Marsh and Vega Barrantes made quick work of their opposites at the top flight with a 21-7, 21-6 thumping.
TU went up 2-0 with Siri Aasgard and Ally Doty‘s 21-19, 21-9 win at No. 5.
Catawba got on the board with a 21-18, 21-14 decision over Jordyn Anderson and Solene Roussel at the 3’s.
Smith and Liszewski claimed the match-winner after a 25-23, 21-18 sweep at the No. 2 flight.
The fourth flight went to the Indians as they hung on for a 21-11, 9-21, 15-11 result over Cooper George and Dasha Nikolaeva.
Match 2: No. 1 Carson-Newman 5, No. 3 Tusculum 0
For the second-straight season, the Eagles claimed the tournament title over the Pioneers.
Aasgard and Doty were the first to fall with a 21-13, 21-7 setback at No. 4.
Smith and Liszewski dropped their matchup at the second flight by a 21-14, 21-11 result.
Anderson and Roussel fell by a mirrored score at No. 3: 21-11, 21-14.
Marsh and Vega Barrantes were reverse swept at the 1’s by a 13-21, 21-14, 15-8 final.
At the No. 5 slot, George and Ryann Gallagher suffered the same fate by a 16-21, 21-19, 15-13 margin.
