ANDERSON, S.C. — Fourth-ranked Anderson University scored three goals in a span of 14 minutes in the first half and went on to defeat Tusculum University 3-1 in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer Saturday night.
The Trojans (4-0-2, 2-0-0 SAC) received goals from Joachim Koch, Jonas Zethofer and Juan Jose Alvarez, while the lone goal from the Pioneers (1-5-0, 0-3-0 SAC) came from Linus Salomonsen in the second half. Anderson outshot Tusculum 13-11 in the match.
Koch scored in the 23rd minute, Zethofer in the 28th minute and Alvarez in the 37th minute to give Anderson a 3-0 lead at halftime. Tusculum got on the board in the 59th minute on a blast from 30 yards to the far top corner by Salomonsen, and had a chance to pull within one in the 82nd minute. However, a penalty kick from Clarenns Sainrimat was saved by Anderson keeper Franco Antoniolli Funes.
Funes finished with four saves for the Trojans, while Pioneer keeper Noe Delmotte had six saves in the match. Anderson had an 8-7 edge in corner kicks, while the Trojans were called for 11 fouls to nine for the Pioneers.
Tusculum will return home to face Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday, Oct. 1 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Pioneer Field. The Railsplitters played to a 1-1 draw with Coker on Saturday and sit atop the SAC standings at 2-0-1 in the league and 2-4-1 overall.
