Greeneville and Greene County schools have long been known for producing award-winning athletes, and now Towering Oaks Christian School can add one more to that tradition.
On Sunday, eighth grader Caleb Scott competed in the Middle School Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky, racing against runners from 30 states. He capped off an outstanding middle school career with a ninth-place finish, clocking a time of 13:21, and earning Middle School All-American honors.
Scott shared that he began running three years ago when his father, David, started the school’s program and encouraged him to give it a try. Since then, he has continued to train, improve, and find success on the course. This season alone, he won six races, including the HXN Middle School National Championship in Nashville on November 1.
“It has been rewarding to see him develop a love for the sport that I also love and to see him excel as he has, while showing the younger runners that hard work pays off, even at a small school,” his coach said.
Although his middle school career has now concluded, Scott has set ambitious goals for the future, including breaking the 15-minute mark in the 5K, becoming a high school state champion, and running cross country in college.
