On Friday Greeneville track and field standout Trey Bailey was announced as an All-American in the 3,200 meters by the National High School Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The NHSTFXCCA determines its All-Americans based on qualifying times and distances achieved during the high school season. Bailey’s best time in the 3,200 came on April 19 at the University of Tennessee during the Volunteer Classic where he ran a season best 9:12.65. While it it was his best time of the year Bailey actually placed fourth in the race behind two runners from North Carolina and Hardin Valley’s Garrett Hawkins, an ETSU signee and Class AAA state champion.
in May, Bailey, a sophomore, won the Class AA State championship the 3,200 meters in a time of 9:28.74, over four seconds ahead of second place. He was third in the state in the 1,600 meters as well at the TSSAA’s Spring Fling.
In November he earned a third place finish at the Class A/AA State Cross Country meet in Hendersonville. Bailey also earned All-American honors in cross country.
