SALISBURY, N.C. — Abby Lockwood scored twice in the final five minutes to complete a Tusculum University rally and give the Pioneers a 12-10 win over Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference women’s lacrosse Wednesday at Shuford Stadium.
Lockwood gave the Pioneers (3-3, 1-1 SAC) their first lead of the game with 4:28 left and added an insurance tally exactly one minute later, while the Tusculum defense shut out Catawba in the fourth quarter. The Indians (1-4, 0-1 SAC) scored just one goal in the final 27 minutes after taking a 9-6 lead early in the third quarter.
Lucy Brewer led the Pioneers with five goals and 11 draw controls, while Kylie Marek had two goals and an assist. Lockwood finished with two goals for the Pioneers, with Liberty Jones collecting a goal and two assists and both Cassidy Bourne and Alyssa Holden contributing a goal and an assist. Paetyn Hoffmann had two assists for the Pioneers, who earned their first-ever win at Catawba in four visits.
Tusculum will visit Newberry on Saturday, March 2. The Wolves (2-3, 1-0 SAC) lost 17-7 to Mount Olive on Wednesday after opening their SAC schedule last Saturday with a 14-13 win over UVA Wise.
