The West Greene Buffaloes will look a bit different this year compared to years past as they’ll be led by a new head coach, who remains very familiar with the program. WGHS alumni and former head middle school coach Evan Monroe takes over the program following the resignation of Scotty Verran this summer. The Buffaloes had a very strong 2022 season finishing 8-3 after starting the year winning eight of their first nine but would lose their final two games of the season including a home playoff matchup to Pigeon Forge 48-0.
West Greene will look to begin the season strong with a matchup with county-rival North Greene in Mosheim on August 18 followed by a trip to Cloudland on August 25. A return to Mosheim will follow to wrap up August as the Buffs will host the Chuckey-Doak Black Knights on August 31.
Entering September, the West Greene Buffaloes will travel to new region opponent Eagleton on September 8 followed by another road matchup to Erwin to play Unicoi County. West Greene will return home for back-to-back games beginning with a rival in South Greene on September 22 and a long haul to Cumberland Gap on September 29.
The month of October will feature three pivotal region matchups as the Buffs will travel to Hampton on October 6 followed by Senior Night from Mosheim on October 20 against Sullivan East and the final game of the regular season on October 27 at Happy Valley.
